Algorand was founded in 2017 by Silvio Micali, who has been on the faculty at MIT, Electrical Engineer and Computer Science since 1983. He is a co-inventor of probabilistic encryption, zero-knowledge proofs, verifiable random functions and many of the protocols that are the foundations of modern cryptography. He is a recipient of the ACM Turing Award (2012), the RSA Award for Excellence in Mathematics (2004), and the Gödel Prize (1993), among many others. Micali oversees all research at Algorand, including theory, security and crypto finance.
